Saltra LFP / BMS Guide
LiFePO4 BMS selection without the guessing.
A BMS is not just another accessory. It is the protection and monitoring layer between your cells, load, charger, inverter, and safety limits.
Buyer pain point
Wrong BMS, wrong build.
Many DIY failures start with a BMS that does not match the cell count, current demand, inverter communication, charge behavior, or temperature needs.
4S BMS for 12V builds
A 12.8V nominal LiFePO4 pack typically uses four cells in series. The BMS must match 4S LiFePO4 voltage limits and the current expected by the load.
16S BMS for 51.2V builds
A 51.2V nominal storage pack typically uses sixteen cells in series. These builds often need CAN/RS485 communication for inverter integration.
Current rating matters
A 200A BMS and 300A BMS may look similar online, but surge behavior, heat, wiring, and enclosure airflow can change real-world performance.
Communication matters
For larger storage systems, Bluetooth is not enough. CAN, RS485, and inverter protocol support may decide whether the system behaves correctly.
Saltra checklist
What Saltra checks before recommending a BMS.
Build logic
Common BMS path.
| Item | Why it matters |
|---|---|
| 12V builder kit | Usually 4S LiFePO4 BMS, commonly 200A to 300A depending on load. |
| 51.2V storage kit | Usually 16S LiFePO4 BMS with CAN/RS485 and inverter communication support. |
| Cold environment | Low-temperature charge protection and heating support become important. |
| Inverter system | Protocol compatibility should be checked before buying. |
Next step
Do not guess the build.
Tell Saltra what you are building, your target voltage, application, capacity goal, and whether you already have an inverter, charger, or BMS. We will use that information to recommend a cleaner battery build path before you buy.
